... And Just Be
"who says its not a poem.. it insites feelings and emotions inside of people to get them up to move and to do things and to spark change, and that's a poem"
"get up, and just get out there and just live, and live your life the way you want to live your life, not how people say you should live your life. In that event just turn off your tv and turn off your radio and just be"

Too much inspiration?
Hmm.. a day off today, normally a little time for myself and my choreo. It's weird things usually flow a bit better when I have a lot on my mind. When I make choreography I usually freestyle and when I like something - I keep it. It's a little awkward right now though, every time I hit a patch of lyrics I'm feeling, it comes out different and I can't decide what I like better. I'm struggling to stick with one single direction, cause every way I go feels too natural. Maybe I'm thinking too hard...
It's not so much choreographers block, but maybe I'm just overloaded with what I want to get off my chest. I was never too good at words, and having more of them doesn't help.

Slow jams can go hard too.
Shit... John this song is the story of my life. So I went to school with this guy, didn't know him too too well, but I totally feel him on this track. Written and Composed by Mr. John Sy.
"now pardon me if i come off shy
i just never seen a girl so fly
the way you walked into the room
now is it destiny or just my luck
that we would cross paths and talk
i wont be leavin no time soon"

Edmonton x Artist's Emerge

So the past weekend I had the dope opportunity to come along side Sikat (which nezzy and serts are in lol) to Edmonton for a competition called Artists Emerge. It was big eye opener for me in a lot of ways.

BUS RIDE WAS BUNK! LOL okay so not really, it was pretty fun considering all we had was two ipods and a belkin 5-way splitter. Props to Wayne and Nezzy for making the dopest mixes along the way to keep the bus entertained. You guys just about killed me with the slow jams.

Sikat.. much respect to you guys. You guys go hard all day. Practice til 3 in the morning, only to wake up at 9 to practice again. Talk about commitment, something I could use (i'm laaaaazzzzyyyy). Shout out to Karen, Kris, and Jeff for champing it out for your team, who were all injured in the process.

So the competition was dope. Watching Edmonton's dance community I found so many similarities but at the same time it was really new to me. These guys are on a totally different level of dance. Choreography was off the hook, but it's not what stood out to me. Just the stage presence that all the crews had was intense. Crowd favorites like White Chocolate & Fly Girls had the audience applauding before they even appeared on stage. Sikat and PDX repped Winnipeg to the fullest, Sikat getting gold status in their professional category, while PDX got platinum, adjudicators choice all while Rowin their lead choreographer got props directly from Megan Lawson from FANNY PAK. While the Fly Girls took home the $1800 prize and the judges were handing out their specialty awards, another thing stood out to me. Whenever someone won an award, it was like everyone won it. Everyone on stage congratulated that person and gave mad props, even the people from rival crews. Three main choreographers which stood out to me, had the "Choreographer of the Year" award up for grabs, and when one of them had won it the other two were so happy for him they cried for him. Being in the Winnipeg dance community, I think that's something we need. Not so much the crying (lol), but I mean support from everyone even when in competition.
Boogie Town-Katerina Graham-Brenda Song
Projected to hit theaters June 2009. If this movie is anything like You Got Served we'll be seeing some ill choreo and horrible acting... THIS MOVIE IS GONNA BE DOPE!! cant wait to see this. I'd love to see the winnipeg dance community get together one night and go see this movie.
Aight aight it wouldnt be a Serts post if didnt talk about the leading ladies in this movie =). Katerina Graham, who plays Ingrid. I cant say i've heard of her but taking a look at her filmography on www.imdb.com, it seems she's just started getting a few roles in movies, with some small rolls on tv (CSI, Malcolm in the Middle, OC..) but appears to have gotten her start as a Disney kid having small rolls in The Parent Trap, 1998 and rolls on Lizzie Mcguire. On a sexy note, i could be fooled by the quick editing of the trailor but she seems to have resemblance to Aaliyah, ill be looking forward to seeing that. oooo weee
BOOM! Speaking of "oooo weee" and Disney, just as sexy, Brenda song aka London Tipton on "The Suite Life of Zack and Cody" She plays Natalie, enough said.. this girl has grown up. gahd dayum!
Well Boogie Town looks to me like its gonna be a mix between You Got served, Twilight, and Romeo and Juliet, but hopfully a sub-plot arises to keep it intersting..... (Twilight jab ahead) but knock on wood cause i was hoping for a sub-plot in Twilight too, and that didnt happen.. whomp whomp whomp...
